"Through the Postern Gate" is an example of the true British sophisticated literature of the Victoria era. The heroine is a sophisticated, intellectual, and noble British woman of the 19th century who is able to make many men fall in love with her. Yet, she doesn't always notice that someone is ready to do everything to win her attention. That's the main topic of the novel – a love story in which the two are not aware of each other's feelings and have to find their way to mutual happiness.
